Alabama Adventure

Welcome to the place you would never think is the home of my ancestors: Alabama.  The place where exercise (for me) is non existent and the food is overflowing.  What happens in the central time zone stays in the central time zone, and I would like to think that the calories stay there when I come back to EST.
We took a quick trip down to Sweet Home Alabama to spend time with family, and meet newly added family members.  After a full day of driving on Sunday, we ended up at my Opa's cousin's house.  There we ate the annual homecoming meal of Aunt Joyce's famous spaghetti and, of course, there was enough pound cake to last a week, but somehow we ate it in two days. Our 'cousins' taught us how to play Phase 10 playing it until late hours at night while we sipped on our third cup of coffee.
The theme of this Alabama trip is as follows: Salad.  Lately I have been obsessed with salad; I mean, it fills you up and it is good for your body!
During our traveling-there and traveling-back day, I tried my best to 'clean out' my system, that is eat as healthy as possible.  For lunch on Sunday we stopped at Wendy's; it was a good thing that we were traveling in a group of five when my dad ordered four side salads, three of which would be my lunch.
I had an inner spazz-attack when I walked into my Aunt Cindy's kitchen and saw salad; and instead of using spaghetti noodles, I put salad on my plate then topped it with Aunt Joyce's famous spaghetti meatball sauce.
On our way back home, we ate lunch at Chick-fil-a where I confused the cashier while ordering a Market Base with the Cobb Salad's corn, carrot and cabbage blend, tomatoes and the Asian Salad's white cabbage (its white but I think its technically called 'green cabbage'). I mean, I wanted what I normally make myself for my breaks at Chick-fil-a.  I would have rang it up for him myself, but I just ignored the impulses since I am already weird as is. Later that night, we stopped at Wendy's for a little snack; Alexandra wanted a Frosty, Oma didn't want anything, Dad ate something while Mom ate some half-salad, and I ate a Chicken Pecan Apple half-Salad.  I was afraid to eat their chicken, because in contrast to Chick-fil-a where we bread and cook our chicken in store from REAL raw packaged meat, I don't think their meat is even real.  Oh well, I figured I needed some kind of protein, so I ate the tofu-tasting chicken topped salad and was satisfied.

I have come to the realization that there are people who eat out constantly, and when I eat out multiple times in a row, I become more thankful for the food in my refrigerator and pantry.  Yes, eating out every now and then is a nice treat, however, eating a meal out of the fridge, fresh and knowing the ingredients put into the meal makes my belly feel happier and cleaner than when I eat out.  Salads are great, however, the ones I make at home are even better than the ones you buy at a restaurant; and they are cheaper!

Eat More Salads
